Cinco de Mayo

In English, "cinco de mayo" translates to "fifth of May", to us it means a chance to celebrate and indulge in Mexican food, music and culture.  Here are three elements that should get your Cinco de Mayo party off to a good start.

The Cocktail - Classic Margarita
1 oz. tequilla
dash of triple sec
juice of 1/2 lime
Rub the glass rim with a lime, spin in salt, fill with crushed ice and the cocktail. Sip and love life.

The Appetizer - Pico de Gallo
4 tomatoes, seeded and diced
1/2 cup white onion, diced
1 jalapeno, seeded and minced
3 tbsp. cilantro, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
juice of 2 limes
1 tsp. olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients.  Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips.

The Music - Dos Mundos - Tradicion by Alejandro Fernandez
For a more contemporary spin on traditional mariachi, try Alejandro Fernandez' 2009 release, Dos Mundos - Tradicion and prepare to be transported to a Mexican cantina overlooking the Gulf.

Ugly Betty finale

Ugly Betty aired it's series finale last night.  What a great show and Betty has come a long way.

In addition to the colorful characters and outrageous story lines, the show was known for showcasing great music and the final four minutes of the series gave us three awesome songs to download.

She & Him

She is the actress and singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel.  He is the indie folk artist M. Ward.  They got together and formed the indie pop band She & Him.

Their new album, She & Him Volume Two, is in stores now and we picked up a copy over the weekend.  We are loving it!  The songs are a combination of California 60's pop and classic country.  The influence of the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, and Patsy Cline are easy to hear.

With Deschanel's dreamy vocals, it is a great, riding with the top down record for a sunny spring day.
